This is blasphemy! This is madness! This is…

A sweet ticket giveaway, ya’ll!

300: Rise of an Empire opens March 6th, and I’m going to be hosting a double-bill with the 2006  Zack Snyder masterpiece (heh) 300 at Rainbow Cinemas Market Square in downtown Toronto!

300 will be playing at 7:00pm, and the premiere of 300: Rise of an Empire will start at 9:30pm. It’s an rad deal and Lena Heady versus Eva Green is this movie made of my dreams or I don’t even know.

There will be a ton of great prizes for you to win from One Million Comix, a bunch of great Frank Miller trailers and videos before each film, and I’m seriously considering making our big contest a competition where you have to do your best kicking-something-over-in-slow-motion impression.

You’re all my faves, so I’m giving away four pairs of tickets to the double-bill! Go ahead and enter if you’re able to make it to the screenings in downtown Toronto on the 6th. Use the options for multiple entries (!) and I’ll notify the winners on March 5th!

[UPDATE: Congrats to all the winners!]

Good luck, Spartans. Remember to show up with your best drawn-on abs, because I sure will.

It’s hard to know how to put my NYCC feels into words (horrible thing for a writer to say, I know, but it’s the truth), so I’ll just go with simple and succinct: New York Comic Con was the most incredible time ever. I met so many people IRL that I’ve only ever met online (including my co-workers at Geekosystem and The Mary Sue, Ashley from Her Universe, Kristin from Fangasm… the list goes on), and I was able to interview some awesome stars of the television, gaming, and comics worlds as an added bonus. If I saw you at NYCC, it was amazing to meet you – and if we missed each other, there’s always next time, because I am definitely going back next year!

You can catch some of my NYCC coverage on Geekosystem and on The Televixen here:

Over the last few weeks, I’ve also been lucky enough to have been asked to speak about Doctor Who a whole bunch! I was on a panel in Toronto at the Merril, which was recorded for the Reversed Polarity Podcast; spoke about gatekeeping and fangirls in Who on the Reality Bomb Podcast; and chatted live from NYCC on the Whoniverse Podcast! That’s it for now, nerds! I leave you with some of my fave photos from NYCC (you can find the rest over on my Instagram!

534948_10101259801060951_778717993_nI’m so unbelievably excited – New York Comic-Con starts tomorrow! I’ve never been to a big American convention before (I know), so this is kind of a big deal for me. Also, what better place in the world is there than the Big Apple?

Are you going to be at NYCC? Are we internet friends? I want to meet you! Drop me a tweet or find me on the show floor, and let’s be IRL friends!

It’s been a bit of a busy week for me – just two days ago, I was in Montreal with The Televixen covering the Syfy Digital Press Tour. Everyone from Syfy was lovely, and I got to visit the Being Human and Helix sets. So rad! Check my Instagram for a bunch of photos, if you’re interested.

That’s it for me, nerds. See you in New York!

Well, we all survived another year at Fan Expo, and it was amazing!

Personal highlights include interviewing the hunky werewolves of Space’s new series Bitten, chatting with the cast of Syfy’s Defiance (video coming soon!), and this incredible Avatar cosplay:

Yip yip!

In all the post-Fan Expo pre-TIFF craziness, I got some other exciting news which I couldn’t wait to share with you nerds: I’m going to be the new Weekend Editor at Mediaite‘s amazing website Geekosystem! Look to see a lot more geek culture posts from me on weekends from here on out – I promise I’ll make them as funny as possible (the pressure!)

I’m going to write things on here!

Comments Off on New geeky gig, & my Fan Expo wrap-up!

Damn you Moffat!

The end of August in Toronto always means three things to me: sweater season is approaching (yay!); patio season is ending (boo!); and – most importantly – Fan Expo Canada is right around the corner!

This year, I’ll be at Fan Expo all four days, jumping between panels, interviews, and press rooms (and trying to find awesome new prints from Artist Alley to add to my collection). Even though things will be crazy, if we’re internet-friends I want to meet you! I’ll be tweeting a photo of my outfit each morning, so if you spot me in the crowd, please don’t be shy – let’s be friends IRL, k?

(Real-life friends can stop me as well, I guess, whatever.)

In other exciting news, I’ve recently started doing some writing for fabulous geek news outlet Geekosystem; you can check out all my writing for them, but here’s couple of my faves:

Elysium NASA

I’ve also got Episodes 4 and 5 of #TVPOV up for your viewing pleasure, some more goodies for PopWrapped linked, and a brand-new feature for Dork Shelf, What to Read Before Marvel’s Phase 2 Films.

In other neat nerd news, the always-wonderful Megan of The Nerdy Girlie interviewed me as part of her Geek Girls Gab series this week! You can read all the nerdy nonsense I have to say right here!

Nerdy Girlie

That’s it for today! See you nerds at Fan Expo!

Can you believe it?! I’m Her Universe‘s Fangirl of the Day!

Sam Maggs Her Universe Fangirl of the Day Year of the Fangirl

It’s seriously me!

Go ahead and click through to Her Universe to read their awesome write-up about me! I love Her Universe (their clothes and their philosophy), so this is a pretty big moment for me.

If you don’t know about Her Universe founder Ashley Eckstein’s Year of the Fangirl project, it’s an amazing initiative designed to highlight girls and ladies who live and breathe sci-fi, providing a safe space for female fans to flaunt their fandoms.
